4. Check for broken or corroded metal parts and replace
as necessary..
5. Check for loose, corroded, or missing clamps. Tighten
or replace hose clamps as needed.
6. Check the generator overboard discharge. It is located
at the starboard aft hull. Make sure there is no blockage
especially looking for spider webs and insect nests.
7. Inspect the entire system for exhaust leaks (blowby).
Check for carbon or soot residue on exhaust system
parts.They are indicators of exhaust leaks. Seal any leaks
or replace parts as needed. Recheck after running
generator.

8. The generator muffler exits water and exhaust from
the unit to the overboard discharge outlet. Check the
fiberglass muffler for any weeping areas of carbon or
water. They are indicators of leaks. Check the entire hose
run from the generator to and from the muffler for leaks.
Tighten all hose clamps periodically.

9. The generator exhaust manifold is protected by a siphon
device. It forms a loop higher than the generator. If the
generator exhaust system tries to back up water through
the exhaust maniflold the check (reed style) valve opens
and allows the water to exit the top of the siphon loop
through the clear hose into the bilge.
Vessels in rough seas that are constantly rolling side to
side are more susceptible to this water injestion through
the exhaust system.

To inspect the siphon break system:

1. Stop generator.
2. Remove the retaining cap and the check valve.
3. Use a mild detergent to remove any debris or oxidation
from the valve.
4. Check the opening for blockage & remove as needed.
5. Replace the siphon break if the valve is cracked or if
hardened or deteriorated.
6. Install the valve into the base with the valve downward.
7. Install the retaining cap finger tight.
