MerCruiser-Cleaning Flame Arrestor

DANGER
!
AVOID INJURY OR DEATH
DUE TO FIRE OR EXPLOSION!
DO NOT SMOKE OR PRODUCE ANY
SPARKS INTHE ENGINE COMPARTMENT!
VENTILATE THE COMPARTMENT
AT ALL TIMES!
Note: Make sure the ignition keys are removed before
starting this procedure. It is recommended that the battery
switches be turned to the "OFF" position.
1. Remove the engine cowling by turning the engine cover
knob counterclockwise.
2. Disconnectt and remove the crankcase ventilation hose
from the fitting on the flame arrestor and valve cover.
3. Remove the flame arrestor.
4. Clean the flame arrestor with a mild detergent and
warm water.
Cosmetic Care & Maintenance
5. Be sure to inspect the flame arrestor for any cracks,
holes or areas of deterioration.
6. The flame arrestor must be completely dry before
installing. You might shake it abit to remove any trapped
water.
7. Clean the ventilation hose with warm water and a mild
detergent. Let dry completely.
8. There should be no cracks or deterioration on the
ventilation hose.
9. Install the flame arrestor and its bracket. Torque the
flame arrestor bracket nuts to 106 inch pounds.
10. Connect the crankcase ventilation hose to the fitting
on the flame arrestor and valve cover.
11. Check all connections.
12. Install the engine cover by turning the engine cover
knob clockwise until tight.
