GAS VAPOR DETECTOR

Overview
The gas vapor detector option monitors the engine com-
partment for accumulations of gasoline vapors. In the
event of vapors, an alarm will sound at the helm.
The operator must take immediate action to avoid the
possibility of an explosion. Do not turn on any electrical
components until the source is identified and repaired.
Check all possible gasoline lines and fittings for leaks along
with the engine and generator fuel systems. Gasoline va-
pors normally will collect low in the engine compartment.
Operation
The display panel on the gas vapor detector gauge con-
tains three windows.
1. The left window is a green power on indicator.
2. The right window is an opening for the Var-a-brite
light intensity indicator.
3. The center window is the red warning indicator.
The gas vapor detector is protected by a 5 amp breaker
located on the helm breaker panel.
The unit is "on" at all times as long as the breaker has
power and in the monitor mode, as indicated by the green
indicator light.
Upon power up, the green power on the LED will come
on and the red warning LED may light momentarily to
indicate a warm-up period for the sensor. The alarm horn
will not come on during this period.
Should a vapor build up reach 10-20% of LEL (Lower
Explosion Limit) the red warning LED will light indicat-
ing a detection of fumes. Should this condition last longer
than 10 seconds, the alarm horn will sound. This alarm
will continue as long as there are vapors present.
The alarm horn may be silenced by pressing the "mute"
switch, but the red warning LED will remain on until the
vapor problem has been corrected.
NOTICE
THE VAPOR PROBLEM SHOULD NEVER
BE CONSIDERED CORRECTED
UNTIL THE RED WARNING LIGHT
If the red LED light begins to glow softly and/or inter-
mittently, it is an indication that a gasoline vapor build-
up is beginning to occur and you can anticipate a full
alarm momentarily.

In The Event Of An Alarm

Immediately evacuate all passengers and crew from the
cabin of the vessel. If a fire or explosion should occur,
the probability of injury will be greatly reduced if no one
is in the cabin. All passengers must put on their life jack-
ets immediately.
It is important to understand, however, that an alarm
would not have occured unless a problem existed. Care-
fully check all gas hoses, lines and fittings for leakage.
