Gamut Matching Method—ColorSync 2.0 supports four
methods for different rendering intents. For example, perceptual
rendering is used for photographic, continuous tone images. (See
your ColorSync documentation for details on the four methods.)
Most ICC-compliant applications also allow you to embed a profile
with an image for consistent color reproduction when used by other
applications.

CRDs

CRDs convert RGB data produced by scanners, monitors, and photo
CDs to CMYK separations that your printer can understand. Adobe
Systems, Inc. created the CRD approach to color management to
perform the complex task of mapping colors across different devices
with different color gamuts and spaces. This is the same process used
in Adobe Photoshop's Mode Change command. (See Photoshop's
documentation for details.) Thus, the Adobe PostScript software that
drives your XANTÉ printer is the same software used by leading
desktop publishing programs for painting your computer screen.
XANTÉ CRDs are matched to specific ink and media combinations.
CRDs are PostScript files that are useful for applications that do not
yet support the ICC standard or for documents that contain RGB
images.
Your printer ships with a default CRD in ROM. The printer uses this
CRD as the default.

Intent

ColorSync rendering intent attempts to remap out-of-gamut colors in
different fashions based on the kind of image being processed. You
need to decide which of ColorSync's four intents is most appropriate
for your task and select it through the front panel Intent menu.
