Use the following procedure when moving the printer. The printer weighs approximately 27 lbs (12 kg) without toner, cassettes, and media installed. Always lift the printer, using the recessed grip areas on the right and left sides only. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the printer and power source.
Store the printer and media properly. Store the printer and media in an area with a temperature of 50˚ to 86˚ F (10˚ to 30˚ C) and a relative humidity of 30% to 66% with no condensation. Store the printer and media in their original packaging or cover them to protect from dust.

Fig. 7.2 Open Top Cover Grounding probe Fig.
Only use water for cleaning the printer’s exterior. Never use alcohol, ammonia-based cleaners, or other volatile cleaners on or around the printer. Never spray or pour water directly on the printer. Always dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with water and wipe the printer with that cloth.
Memory requirements depend on file and media size. The standard 64 MB of RAM is sufficient for average files. Complex, large, or heavy graphics files may require more than standard memory to print. You can upgrade your printer’s memory to 256 MB. Warranty and Service Options XANTÉ...

6-2 – Printing on Various Media and Options...
Media Specifications To ensure that your job prints correctly, use appropriate media. Store and handle it carefully to prevent damage to the media or printer. This section covers selecting Media and describes media types and sizes for use with your printer.
(10 to 30˚ C) and a stable relative humidity from 30 to 65% Media Sizes Your printer allows you to use media up to 11.69" x 17.00" (297 mm x 431 mm). This section and “Media Sources” later in this chapter cover which media source to use with specific media sizes.
Physical page size differs from the imageable area. The imageable area is the physical page area on which the printer can lay down toner. The following chart lists physical page sizes for standard media your printer handles. The imageable area for Letter, A4, A3, B5, B4, Ledger, and tabloid media is 5 mm in from each side (fig.
If you want to print a custom size, make sure the dial is set to Others; then any page size can be used. If a media size that is different from the dial setting is loaded in the printer, a document will not print until the dial is reset to the correct size.
The paper is delivered into the output tray. Media Sources Your printer has two built-in paper cassette feeders. The top feeder holds the 100 sheet multipurpose cassette; the second feeder holds the standard 250 sheet cassette. These two cassettes provide an input capacity of approximately 350 sheets of 17 lb bond (64 ) to 21.7 lb (81.4 g/m...
Optional Paper Feeder You can add an optional paper cassette feeder to your printer to increase input for standard paper to approximately 600 sheets. See “Installing the Optional Paper Feeder”...
Use the following guidelines for tray chaining. • Both selected media sources must contain the same size media. If the printer detects a different size media when it switches to the new tray, the printer stops printing. • All trays must be inserted properly. When tray chaining is enabled, an incorrectly positioned tray will prevent the printer from printing.
Printing Double-Sided Copy You can print double-sided copy manually by feeding paper through the printer twice. Print the first side of the paper. Remove the paper from the output tray, straighten any curling edges, and allow it to cool thoroughly.
• Avoid handling transparencies excessively to prevent fingerprints and scratches. • Keep the paper path clean (see “Cleaning the Printer” in chapter 7); dust or dirt can scratch transparencies and reduce print quality. • Load fewer transparencies if jams occur. The weight of a large stack could cause the sheets to stick together.
Repeat printing of these cards may lower the frictional force of the printer’s feed roller causing incorrect feeding. If you use these types of cards, lightly wipe the powder off both sides of the card using a dry lint-free cloth.
Installing the Optional Paper Feeder An optional feeder and paper cassette can be added to your printer to increase input capacity for standard paper to approximately 600 sheets. Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord from the printer and power source, disconnect all interface cables, and remove any media output tray.
Install the upgrade(s). Reassemble the printer. Static electricity can destroy the printer’s electronic components. Always use an antistatic procedure when working with the controller board. Use an anti-static wristband or touch an unpainted metal surface to eliminate static electricity before handling a circuit board.
• Small magnetized Phillips head screw driver • Container to hold parts removed from printer Make sure the printer is in an Online Ready state (LED 1 is on solid and LED 2 is off). Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord from the power supply, disconnect any interface cable, and remove any media in the output tray.
Page 108
• IDE hard disk • IDE ribbon cable Static electricity can destroy the printer’s electronic components. Always use an antistatic procedure when working with the controller board. Use an anti-static wristband or touch an unpainted metal surface to eliminate static electricity before handling a circuit board.
Page 109
Use a magnetized screwdriver to remove the metal screws. Be extremely careful not to drop any screws down into the printer’s chassis. This could cause damage to the printer which is not covered by the warranty. In this case, contact XANTÉ Technical Support for information on retrieving the screw(s).

Reattach the MCTRL (fig. 6.30) and LED (fig. 6.31) cables by gently lowering their cable ends straight down into their respective controller board connectors.
Standard RAM for your printer is 64 MB. You can upgrade printer memory to 128 MB or to 256 MB. If you order a memory upgrade with your printer it will be installed before the printer ships. When you first upgrade memory from the original 64 MB, the RAM jumper must be removed to enable the SODIMM bank for the upgrade.
Page 115
Fig. 6.32 Remove RAM Jumper Rotate the jumper 90 to the side, and place it back down onto only one of the socket prongs (fig. 6.33). This activates the RAM upgrade memory bank. Remove the upgrade SODIMM from its package. Open the end latches on the RAM memory bank by rotating them out and down (fig.
After you install a controller board upgrade, use the following procedure to reassemble the printer. Align and lower the controller cover onto the printer (fig. 6.36). Make sure the cover’s arrow points forward, the five front edge tabs fit into the corresponding printer slots, and the three screws align with corresponding printer holes.
Page 117
Tighten the three controller cover screws (fig. 6.36). Align the output tray’s three center front edge tabs with the corresponding printer slots; then, lower the tray down and forward (fig. 6.37; A) into place making sure its two back-edge screw holes align with the corresponding printer holes.
