Removal And Replacement Procedures
Damper, Media
Removal
1. Prepare the printer for maintenance (page 223).
2. Remove the access panels (page 226).
3. Remove the main power supply.
4. Remove the retaining E-ring securing the damper shaft to the printer
frame. Remove the two washers.
5. Lift the lower arm of the media damper spring from the media damper and
place it on the media damper stop on the frame.
NOTE: The spring should remain on the frame.
6. Slide the media damper out of the frame. (Figure 46, page 268, detail A.)
7. Using a flathead screwdriver, pry the media damper shaft from the
retaining rib at its groove and push the shaft over the rib. (Figure 34).
8. Remove the media damper shaft from the media damper.
Installation
1. Insert the media damper shaft into the media damper until the groove
snaps over the retaining rib. (Figure 34.)
2. Install one nylon washer (Figure 46, page 268, item 8) on the media
damper shaft and slide the shaft into the front center wall plate so that the
lower arm of the media damper spring (Figure 46, page 268, item 5) rests
on top of the retainer tab on the damper and the upper arm of the spring
catches the frame tab from below.
3. Install the nylon washer and retaining E-ring on the end of the shaft.
NOTE: The media damper should move freely up and down without binding,
