D Inspect commutator for wear or abnormal limit. Replace if neces-
sary.
Commutator insulator reference depth "a"
Standard: 0.7 – 0.9 mm (0.028 – 0.035 in.)
Limit: 0.5 mm (0.020 in.)
D Ground test
Check commutator and armature core. If there is continuity, ar-
mature is grounded and must be replaced.
D Open circuit test
Check for continuity between segments. If there is no continuity
at any point, there is an open circuit and armature must be re-
placed.
FIELD COIL
Ground test
Check continuity between brush and bare surface.
If there is continuity, field windings are grounded.
The yoke assembly must be replaced.
BRUSH
Check brushes for wear. If below limit, replace brush.
Brush length
Standard: 19.5 mm (0.77 in.)
Limit: 12.0 mm (0.48 in.)
