6. Remove the pad retainers (A), and check the caliper
pin for free m o v e m e n t .
7. Clean the caliper t h o r o u g h l y ; remove any rust, and
check for grooves and cracks.
8. Check the brake disc for damage and cracks.
9. Clean and install the pad retainers.
10. A p p l y a thin coat of M-77 assembly paste (P/N
08798-9010) to the pad side of s h i m outer pad s h i m
C, inner pad s h i m B, both sides of inner pad s h i m A,
the back of brake pads (D), and to the other areas
indicated by the arrows. W i p e excess assembly
paste off the pad shims and brake pads.
Contaminated brake discs and pads reduce
stopping ability. Keep assembly paste off the brake
discs and brake pad material.

11. Install the brake pads and pad shims correctly.
Install the brake pads w i t h the wear indicator (E) on
top.
If y o u are reusing the brake pads, always reinstall
the brake pads in their original positions to prevent
a m o m e n t a r y loss of braking efficiency.
12. Push in the piston (B) so the caliper w i l l fit over the
brake pads. Check the brake f l u i d level. The brake
fluid may o v e r f l o w if the reservoir is too full. Make
sure the piston boot is in position to prevent
d a m a g i n g it w h e n pivoting the caliper d o w n .
13. Pivot the caliper (C) d o w n into position. Install the
flange bolt (D), and tighten it to the specified torque.
14. Install the brake hose m o u n t i n g bolts, and tighten
then to 9.8 N-m (1.0 kgf-m, 2.2 Ibf-ft).
15. Press the brake pedal several t i m e s to make sure
the brakes work.
NOTE: Engagement of the brake may require a
greater pedal stroke i m m e d i a t e l y after the brake
pads have been replaced as a set. Several
applications of the brake pedal w i l l restore the
normal pedal stroke.
16. After installation, check for leaks at hose and line
joints or connections, and retighten if necessary.
Then test-drive the vehicle.
