Modulator Unit
The modulator unit consists of the inlet solenoid valve, outlet solenoid valve, TCS normally open (NO) solenoid valve,
TCS normally closed (NC) solenoid valve, reservoir, p u m p , p u m p motor, and the d a m p i n g chamber.
The modulator controls the caliper f l u i d pressure directly. It is a circulating-type modulator because the brake fluid
circulates t h r o u g h the caliper, the reservoir, and the master cylinder.
The hydraulic control has three modes: Pressure intensifying, pressure retaining, and pressure reducing.
The hydraulic circuit is an independent four channel type, one channel for each w h e e l .
ABS Control
Pressure intensifying mode
TCS NO valve open, TCS NC valve closed, inlet valve open, outlet valve closed.
Master cylinder fluid is p u m p e d out to the caliper.
Pump motor
W h e n starting the pressure reducing m o d e , the p u m p m o t o r is ON. W h e n stopping ABS operation, the p u m p m o t o r is
OFF.
The reservoir f l u i d is p u m p e d out by the p u m p , t h r o u g h the d a m p i n g chamber, to the master cylinder.

Pressure retaining mode
TCS NO valve o p e n , TCS NC valve closed, inlet valve closed, outlet valve closed.
Caliper fluid is retained by the inlet valve and outlet valve.
