Example
The following example adds a description to the Ethernet port 5.
console(config)#interface gigabitethernet 1/0/5

duplex
Use the duplex command in Interface Configuration mode to configure the
duplex operation of a given Ethernet interface. To restore the default, use the
no form of this command.
Syntax
duplex {auto | half | full}
no duplex

auto—Enable auto-negotiation for the port.
•
half—Force half-duplex operation and disable auto-negotiation.
•
—
full
Force full-duplex operation and disable auto-negotiation.
Default Configuration
Auto-negotiation is enabled by default on copper ports.

When both speed and duplex are configured to auto, auto negotiation is
enabled for the port. To disable auto-negotiation on a port, it is necessary to
enter either the speed or duplex commands without using the auto
