8-cylinder TDI engine (4.2 ltr. 4-valve common rail), mechanics - Edition 12.2013
– Loosen cylinder head cover bolts -arrows- in diagonal se‐
quence.
– Remove bolts and take off cylinder head cover.
Installing
Note
Renew cylinder head cover gaskets if damaged.
– Tighten cylinder head cover bolts diagonally and in stages.
– Install injectors (piezo injectors) ⇒ Rep. gr. 23 .
– Check fuel system for leaks
Tightening torques

Removing and installing cylinder head

Removing
– Remove engine ⇒ page 8
Note
The engine/gearbox assembly remains on the scissor-type as‐
sembly platform - VAS 6131 A- (without detaching the gearbox)
when performing the following repairs.
– Remove timing chains from camshafts
– Remove intake manifold (top section) ⇒ Rep. gr. 23 .
Cylinder head (left-side):
– Remove high-pressure pump ⇒ Rep. gr. 23 .
– Remove coolant hoses -arrows- from connection for exhaust
gas recirculation (left-side).
– Remove bolts -1 ... 3- and detach connection for exhaust gas
recirculation (left-side).
