Measuring axial clearance of camshafts

Special tools and workshop equipment required
♦ Universal dial gauge bracket - VW 387-
♦ Dial gauge - VAS 6079-
Procedure
– Remove retaining frame
⇒ "3.4 Removing and installing camshafts", page 167
– Secure dial gauge - VAS 6079- with universal dial gauge
bracket - VW 387- to retaining frame as shown in illustrations.
Axial clearance (inlet camshaft):
• Specification: 0.03 ... 0.06 mm.
• Wear limit: 0.12 mm.
