NauticaRS Release 4.1 Reference Guide

Upgrading a Nautica Marlin

Minimum Hardware Requirements

2-8
In NauticaRS 4.1, a new scheme has been devised for loading
NauticaRS software directly from the Nautica Configuration
Wizard (Nautica Wizard).
Nautica Wizard is a Windows 95 configuration tool that allows
Nautica routers to be configured quickly and efficiently.
The use of Nautica Wizard avoids the need for users having to
have packet drivers for future upgrades.
In order for your Marlin to inter-operate with Nautica Wizard in
bootmode, it is necessary to load the new bootloader.
Warning:
It is strongly recommended that you upgrade the
bootloader on your Nautica router when upgrading from 3.5 to
4.1 router code. The new bootloader is required for the full
operation of Nautica Wizard.
Caution:
While it is possible to run 4.1 router code with an old
bootloader, it is dangerous as erasing the configuration from the
front panel display causes the old loader to erase part of the new
router code.
All Marlin models can be upgraded however, the older NX-1 and
TB-1 models are not upgradeable. The NX-1 and TB-1 have a
10BASE-2 Ethernet interface instead of the 10BASE-T Ethernet
interface of later models. Do not upgrade the new Marlin loader
into units with a 10BASE-2 Ethernet interface.
