Note on switching between master and slave mode during operation:
According to the specifications, the SSPMS IP does not support dynamic toggling be-
tween master and slave mode. Simulations have, however, shown that master
and slave
master toggling during operation is possible without resetting the SSPMS IP.
There are no specific time requirements to be met, but the current SPI transfer must be
completed for the operating mode in question (master or slave).
2.3.10.7.1.1 SSPMS IP Issues
If the SPI-IP is operated in TI mode (SSPCR0.FRF = "01"), the unused bits from the 16-
bit data register whose used width is configured with SSPCR0.DSS are not defined in
terms of data content and must therefore be masked out by the SW after being read.

SSPMS IP Extension

The SSPMS IP used for the ERTEC 200P SPI interface is not the original version; it has
the following additional interface signals:
"Receive FIFO not empty" signal (SSP_SSPRXDMA)
"Transmit FIFO empty" signal (SSP_TFE)
These signals contains the values of the RNE and TFE bits of the SSPSR register.
Note on implementation:
The additional interface signal SSP_SSPRXDMA is already available in the SSPMS IP
version in the ClearCase directory /vobs/ip_pool_mc/ssp/hdl. The additional signal
SSP_TFE needs to be added to the SSPMS top level file Ssp.vhd.
