Search Algorithms – Linear
The simplest search algorithm is linear. Here, the parameter will be
moved in fixed steps from a passing setting until a fail occurs or the
range of the search (user settings or tester capability imposed) is
exceeded.
If a functional test with the primary setting fails, no search will be
performed and you will receive a warning message. The test function
always reports the last pass value, the resolution of the result is the
same as the step size.
Advantages:
• will not miss anomalies as long as the step size is small
• setting of search range is not critical to how test is performed (and
how long it takes)
Disadvantages:
• can be very time-consuming if many steps are required to find a fail
