2-1 Test Engineer's Responsibilities
Test Engineer's Responsibilities
• Do I have a suitable tester/DUT interface?
• Are there any special requirements, maybe due to high clock rate?
• What datalogging requirements do I have?
• Do I already know what test margins to apply?
• What throughput do I hope to achieve?
When you have the answers to all such questions you are ready to
procede to the test setup phase.
Validaton and Analysis
Once a DUT board has been designed, it needs to be determined
whether or not the DUT board will perform as intended, so a verifica-
tion process needs to be implemented. The time it takes to verify the
DUT board also needs to be considered in the overall schdule.
When developing a test for a new device design, there may be flaws in
the overall production of the device, so there may be some debugging of
the silicon that must occur, as well as debugging a newly implemented
test program.
Device characterization, data collection, results analysis and failure
analysis are also critical components to the validation and analysis
processes.
Test Enhancement
When your test plan has been developed and implemented on your test
system, there are certain enhancements to the test that need to be
implemented. It will be your responsibility to:
• Develop reliability tests
• Enhance the yield of devices tested
• Develop ways to reduce test times
• Correlate devices
• Improve test methodology
• Improve fault coverage
Test in Production
Once your test program has been fully developed and is ready to use in
a production environment, you will be responsible for the overall
release of the test program. This may also be include training the
necessary production personnel in the use of the test program, and
monitoring production data to verify the test program continues to be
valid for the device tested.
Documentation
Lastly, you will be responsible for several types of documentation
supporting the design, implementation and use of your test program.
Careful and thorough documentation will need to be provided for:
