The Agilent Technologies 86082A wavelength domain component analyzer
(WDCA) is designed for the manufacture of narrow-wavelength filters.
As bandwidth requirements accelerate, demand is increasing for higher bit
rates and more channels. As more channels are added, the filter width and the
spacing between channels are decreasing to keep all the channels within the
critical range of optical amplifiers. The optical filter is a crucial component in
determining channel separation and location.
The optical filter's absolute wavelength position, location relative to the ITU
grid, width, and shape are all important specifications to the designers, manu-
facturers, and users of these filters. As filter widths move from 200 GHz to
25 GHz and lower, these specifications become increasingly difficult to mea-
sure. The WDCA offers both the high precision and fast measurement speeds
necessary for these demanding measurements.
Instrument features
The WDCA combines the best of Agilent Technologies optical spectrum ana-
lyzer (OSA) and tunable laser source (TLS). The receiver in the 86082A has
the dynamic range, digital signal processing, large display, feature set, and
graphical user interface of Agilent's OSA. This receiver is integrated with Agi-
lent's TLS to provide the speed, wavelength range, and narrow 1 pm resolution
features which the TLS offers. Together, they offer the speed and ease of use
needed for demanding narrow-wavelength filter measurements.
The WDCA's dual input channels allow you to test two devices at the
same time or make a reflection and insertion loss measurements
without making a connector change.
The WDCA includes a dedicated built-in calibration reference cell. This pro-
vides the instrument with better than 10 pm absolute wavelength accuracy
and a dynamic range of –65 dB as close as 2.5 pm from the signal peak.
