Preparing the Instrument for Shipping
Use the troubleshooting steps in the previous section to determine whether
the WDCA, the TLS, or both need to be returned for repair. If system errors
and troubleshooting indicate that only one component is faulty, return only
that instrument. If you are unable to determine the cause, return both instru-
ments.
If possible, provide a DUT which can demonstrate the system error. Duplicat-
ing the exact measurement environment is essential to troubleshooting diffi-
cult problems. Any extra equipment and accessories will be returned with the
instrument.

1 Write a complete description of the failure and attach it to the instrument.
Include any specific performance details related to the problem. The following
information should be returned with the instrument.
• Type of service required.
• Date instrument was returned for repair.
• Description of the problem:
• Whether problem is constant or intermittent.
• Whether instrument is temperature-sensitive.
• Whether instrument is vibration-sensitive.
• Instrument settings required to reproduce the problem. If you are return-
ing the system for repair, save the instrument state where the problem is
observed to the WDCA internal drive. Provide the state filename along
with the error information.
• Performance data.
• Relevant error messages. Provide a hard copy printout if possible. Have
these errors and error numbers available when you call the service center
and make certain they are entered on the repair request.
• Company name and return address.
• Name and phone number of technical contact person.
• Model number of returned instrument.
• Full serial number of returned instrument.
• List of any accessories returned with instrument.
