Measurement Techniques
pending on current ambient temperature conditions, a Lambda Zero may be
executed automatically in less than 4 minutes. For this reason, once the TLS
Settle: xxxm message turns red, a Lambda Zero should be expected at any
time. Once a Lambda Zero has been executed, the front panel and remote
interface will be disabled until it has been completed. This takes approxi-
mately 3.5 minutes.
Theory of
For the WDCA to detect the need for a Lambda Zero, three status bits, divided
Operation
between two registers are used:
• PendingLambdaZero, bit 2 in the Operation Status register
• LambdaZeroInProgress, bit 3 in the Operation Status register
• LambdaZeroComplete, in the Operation Questionable register
PendingLambdaZero uses the temperature inside the laser to predict when
the next Lambda Zero will be needed. Under normal temperature conditions,
the prediction works well. If the ambient temperature is changing rapidly, or if
the WDCA receiver is turned on before the TLS has properly warmed up to
reach the ambient temperature (approximately 2 hours), the predication is
less reliable.
LambdaZeroInProgress is set when the Lambda Zero begins, and will
remain high until the Lambda Zero is completed. You can configure the WDCA
so that a positive transition of this bit is latched and summarized in the Status
Byte bit 7. This can then be read with a serial poll.
LambdaZeroComplete is the inverse of LambdaZeroInProgress. It is placed
in a separate register so that the end of the Lambda Zero can be detected with
a serial poll. You can configure the WDCA so that positive transition of this bit
is latched and summarized in Status Byte bit 2.
