Cylinder Head
Engine Compression Inspection

W a r m u p t h e e n g i n e t o n o r m a l o p e r a t i n g
t e m p e r a t u r e ( c o o l i n g f a n c o m e s o n ) .
2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
3. Remove the intake manifold cover {see step 1 on
page 6-25).
4. Disconnect all four injector connectors.
5. Start the engine, and let it run until it stalls.
6. Remove the four ignition coils (see page 4,23).
7 . R e m o v e t h e f o u r s p a r k p l u g s .
8. Attach the compression gauge to the spark plug
n o l e .

9. Open the throttle fully, then crank the engine with
the staner motor and measure the compression.
Compression Pressure:
Above 930 kpa {9.5 kgt/cm., 135 psi)
1 0 . M e a s u r e t h e c o m p r e s s i o n o n t h e r e m a i n i n g
c y l i n d e r s .
Maximum variation:
Within 200 kPa {2.0 kgt/cm,,28 psil
11. lf the compression is not within specifjcations,
check the following items. then remeasure the
c o m p r e s s i o n .

. D a m a g e d c y l i n d e r h e a d g a s k e r
. D a m a g e d o r w o r n p i s t o n r i n g s
. D a m a g e d o r w o r n p i s t o n a n d c y l i n d e r b o r e
