iSCSI adapters in the servers are used to communicate over an IP network to the
DS300 disc subsystem. An alternative to iSCSI hardware adapters in the servers
is to use iSCSI software initiators instead. These have the advantage of reduced
costs in the server. However, they have the disadvantage of less security and
increased server CPU utilization.
The IBM TotalStorage DS300 is available in 3 models as shown in Table 3-2.
