Engine and Control Systems
Engine Control Systems
If the cylinder head temperature exceeds 212° F
(100° C) below 3500 RPM, the EMM:
Activates S.A.F.E.
Stores fault code 40 (port sensor)
Stores fault code 70 (starboard sensor)
Engine Monitor: TEMP display ON
If cylinder head temperature exceeds 239° F
(115° C) for 3 seconds, the EMM:
Activates SHUTDOWN
Stores fault code 31
Engine Monitor: TEMP display ON
The outboard will not restart until the engine tem-
perature returns to normal. Refer to Shutdown
Mode on p. 89.
If sensor values are less than -13°F (-25°C), or
greater than 329°F (165°C), the EMM:
Stores fault code 41 (port sensor)
Stores fault code 67 (starboard sensor)
If sensor values are below -4°F (-20°C), the EMM:
Stores fault code 42 (port sensor)
Stores fault code 68 (starboard sensor)
If cylinder head does not reach operating tem-
perature (122°F / 50°C below 1000 RPM) in 10
minutes, the EMM:
Stores fault code 58 (port sensor)
Stores fault code 59 (starboard sensor)

Low Oil Level Switch

The low oil switch monitors the oil level in the oil
tank.
If the oil level falls below 25% capacity, the EMM:
Engine Monitor: OIL display ON
82
After LOW OIL is displayed, the EMM counts oil
pump pulse cycles again. When it reaches 20,000
pulses, the EMM:
Activates S.A.F.E.
Stores fault code 117
Engine Monitor: OIL display ON
To recover from S.A.F.E. mode:
Oil level must be above 25%
The warning resets after three oil pump pulse
cycles when the outboard has been stopped
and restarted.
If outboard has been run for more than 5 hours
with NO OIL faults (codes 34, 36 or 117), the
EMM:
Activates SHUTDOWN
Stores fault code 33
Engine Monitor: OIL display ON

Oil Level Sensor

The oil level sensor monitors the oil level in the oil
tank and provides information to a digital gauge
display. Due to the contour of the on-engine oil
tank, oil level accuracy may vary up to 5% as oil is
consumed from the tank.
If the oil level sensor signal falls BELOW range,
the EMM signals:
Stores fault code 112
If the oil level sensor signal is ABOVE range, the
EMM:
Stores fault code 113
