nozzle port in cylinder head to prevent contamina-
tion of combustion chamber.
Removal
WARNING
When servicing the fuel system, always shift
the outboard to NEUTRAL position, turn the
key switch OFF and remove the key, so the
outboard cannot be started accidentally.
Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to Relieving
Fuel System Pressure on p. 168.
Disconnect the battery cables at the battery.
Remove the engine top, front and rear covers.
Remove the port and starboard side panels.
Use a #2 Posi-drive screwdriver to remove the
three screws retaining the center frame to the
frame mounts.
Remove the port and/or starboard frames as
required.
Remove the ignition coils:
Disconnect the electrical connectors from each
ignition coil.
Remove the ignition coil bracket retaining
screws and washers.
Disconnect the electrical connector from each fuel
injector.
Remove fuel rails from the bank of fuel injectors.
Refer to Fuel Rail Service on p. 172.
Use shop towels to catch any spilled fuel.
ENVIRONMENTAL NOTE
Dispose of fuel contaminated towels in an envi-
ronmentally responsible manner, or according to
local regulations.
Remove the fuel injectors from the cylinder head
as follows:
1. BOTTOM fuel injector: remove the upper screw
completely, then loosen the lower screw sev-
eral turns (do NOT remove the lower screw).
2. MIDDLE injector: remove BOTH screws.

3. TOP injector: remove the lower screw com-
pletely, then loosen the upper screw several
turns (do NOT remove upper screw).
4. Remove the upper screw from the TOP injec-
tor. Support the injector bank in place on the
cylinder head.
5. Continue to support the injector bank in place
while removing the lower screw from the BOT-
TOM injector.
After the lower screw is detached from the cylin-
der head, remove the bank of fuel injectors from
the cylinder head.
Use a suitable container to drain fuel from the
injectors.
Take the bank of fuel injectors to a work bench or
other suitable work surface.
Remove fuel injector insulators from the cylinder
head.

Separate the injectors from the injector bank.
