Fuel System
Fuel System Tests
Check fuel flow through fuel lift pump. Use fuel
primer bulb to force fuel through pump.
No pressure
Momentarily prime or squeeze primer bulb to
check gauge operation.
Check fuel flow through fuel lift pump. Use fuel
primer or primer bulb to force fuel through
pump.
Check pulse hoses and fittings restrictions.
Electric Fuel Pump Pressure Test
Install hose pinching pliers on the short hose
between the fuel filter bracket to the vapor separa-
tor assembly. This will prevent fuel from draining
out of the vapor separator.

1. Hose pinching pliers
Temporarily install a 0 to 15 psi (0 to 103 kPa)
Fuel Pressure Gauge, P/N 5006397 or equivalent,
and T-fitting between the intermediate fuel pump
outlet and the fuel supply hose to the water sepa-
rating fuel filter.

1. Fuel pressure gauge
2. T-fitting
Remove the hose pinching pliers.
162
Prime the fuel system and check for leaks. START
the outboard and run at idle speed. Hold the fuel
pressure gauge level with the fuel inlet fitting and
monitor the gauge for pressure reading.
Pressure should stabilize and gauge must not
indicate less than 6 psi (41 kPa).
Results:
Normal pressure
Perform the Fuel Lift Pump Vacuum Test on
p. 163. Make sure no air leaks or restrictions
exist in the fuel supply hose or boat fuel system.
Low pressure
Perform the Fuel Lift Pump Vacuum Test on
p. 163. Make sure no air leaks or restrictions
exist in the fuel supply hose or boat fuel system.
Check fuel flow through fuel lift pump.
No pressure
Check fuel flow through fuel lift pump.
Fuel Circulation Pump Pressure Test
Install Fuel Pressure Test Adapter, P/N 357713,
on the fuel pump and vapor separator assembly
and to the fuel connector on the fuel rail.
Install a 0 to 60 psi (0 to 415 kPa) Fuel Pressure
009201
Gauge, P/N 5007100 or equivalent, to the fitting
on the fuel pressure test adapter.

1. Fuel Pressure Test Adapter, P/N 357713
2. Fuel pressure gauge
Running Outboard
START the outboard and check pressure. System
009202
pressure should be 24 to 34 psi (165 to 234 kPa)
@ idle RPM.
Shut OFF outboard. Monitor pressure gauge.
