Outboard Will Not Start
OBSERVATION
Battery switch not ON
Discharged battery
Battery cables and connections
Faulty connection or ground,
damaged electrical harness
Outboard does not
Fuse
turn over
Wiring harness
Key switch
Starter solenoid
Starter or bendix/drive gears
Seized powerhead or gearcase Check and repair as needed
Discharged battery
Battery cables and connections
Outboard turns slowly
Powerhead hydro-locked
Partially seized powerhead or
gearcase
Starter or bendix/drive gears
Trouble Check Chart
POSSIBLE CAUSE
PROCEDURE
Check battery switch operation
Check battery, recharge or replace
Clean and tighten connections. Check for voltage
drop in starter circuit.
Check all grounds, connections and wiring
Check wiring, then replace faulty fuse
Check for 12 V at terminal "B" of key switch
Check key switch operation
Check wiring and test solenoid
Check starter, inspect bendix/drive gears
Check battery, recharge or replace
Clean and tighten connections. Check voltage
drop in starter circuit.
Check cylinders for water
Check and repair as needed
Check starter, inspect bendix/drive gears
