Shift Actuator Calibration

Rotate the propeller shaft while carefully pushing
down on the actuator to shift the gearcase into
neutral. Do NOT force the actuator.

2. Push down on shift actuator
Apply Ultra Lock to the shift actuator retaining
screws. Install the six screws and tighten to a
torque of 84 to 106 in. lbs. (9.5 to 12 N·m).

Remove the plug from the top of the shift actuator.

IMPORTANT:
This is an air chamber. Do NOT fill
with oil.

Install a gearcase pressure tester and pressurize
to 16 to 18 PSI for 5 to 10 minutes. If the shift
actuator does not hold pressure, repair any leaks.
After confirming there are no leaks, remove the
gearcase pressure tester.
Make sure the gasket is installed on the plug
and the plug is tightened securely. Water
intrusion into the shift actuator cavity will
damage the shift actuator.

Reinstall the plug in the top of the shift actuator.
Tighten the plug to a torque of 60 to 84 in. lbs. (7
to 9.5 N·m).

Shift Actuator Calibration
Calibrate the shift actuator:
1. If the gearcase is removed from the outboard,
temporarily connect the shift actuator cable to
the engine harness.
2. Turn the key switch to the ON position. Do
NOT start the engine.

2. Use Evinrude Diagnostic software v 6.1 or
higher to calibrate the shift actuator.

Select the Shift Throttle screen.
