Pistons and Connecting Rods

NOTICE
It is very important that the pistons in this
engine are installed in the correct location
and direction. Engine damage will occur if
installed incorrectly.
New pistons are stamped "EXH." These markings
should be turned toward the exhaust (PORT) side
of the block.
1. Stamped markings to PORT
NOTICE
Connecting rods MUST be installed with the
alignment dots and arrow on the cap facing
up, toward the flywheel.

Insert a new wrist pin bearing into the connecting
rod. Remove the outer needle retaining band.
Leave the cardboard center retainer in place.

Insert Bearing Installer, P/N 338646, into the con-
necting rod. Remove the cardboard retainer as
the tool is installed.

Apply outboard lubricant to the wrist pin bore,
wrist pin bearings and wrist pin.

Install wrist pin into the piston.
Place the connecting rod with bearing into the pis-
ton.
IMPORTANT:
to hold the bearing installer in place to prevent
bearing needles from falling out of place.
