System Priming on p. 160). The fuel pump runs
continuously during engine operation.

The EMM monitors the fuel pump electrical circuit.
If the pump is disconnected (open circuit), the

Fuel Reservoir
The vapor separator accumulates fuel in an inter-
nal fuel reservoir and supplies fuel to the electric
circulation pump. It is water-cooled to enhance
vapor separating capabilities.
Cooling
Water is used to cool the fuel as it flows through
the vapor separator. The cooling passage of the
156
separator self-drains when the outboard is stored
vertically.

Pressure Regulators
Fuel pressure regulators helps maintain consis-
tent fuel pressure in the fuel system. See the Fuel
System Flow Diagram (AG & Newer) on p. 151.
Fuel Pressure Regulators
1. Low pressure regulator
2. High Pressure regulator
Low Pressure Regulator
A low pressure regulator maintains approximately
7 to 15 psi (48 to 103 kPa) of fuel pressure in the
low pressure side of the fuel system.
When the fuel pressure in the reservoir exceeds
the pressure regulator setting the regulator opens.
Fuel then flows through the regulator and an inter-
nal passage to the fuel lift pump. Fuel is cycled by
the lift pump until pressure is restored to normal
levels.
High Pressure Regulator
Fuel returning from the injectors enters the fuel
reservoir of the vapor separator through a pres-
