Water Intake Screens

Install water intake screens. Tighten screws to a
torque of 60 to 84 in. lbs. (7 to 9.5 N·m).

Propeller Shaft Installation
Apply Triple Guard grease the leading edge of the
shifter housing as shown.

Push shifter detent into farthest downward posi-
tion. Tip the rear of the gearcase slightly down-
ward to assist in the installation of the shaft
assembly.
Be sure the thrust bearing and the thrust washer
are in the proper position. Insert the shaft assem-
bly fully into the gearcase. Make sure the align-

ment pin on the shifter housing is aligned with the
hole in forward end of gearcase housing.

Make sure the shifter detent will align with the shift
rod bushing. Look through the shift rod bushing to
confirm the shifter detent will align with the shift
rod. Misalignment will prevent installation of the
shift rod.
Use Installer, P/N 359079, to install the clutch
shaft and shifter housing assembly.
Align the holes in the installer with the detent ball
holes in the clutch shaft.
Insert a 0.25 in. (6 mm) diameter x 1.25 in. (32
mm) long pin or bolt (obtain locally) through the
