Terminal Server Port

To support the widest range of existing system deployments, the SCM provides a method of
remotely accessing various equipment using an RS-232 connection through a Telnet
connection. This feature can be used through the Ethernet interface (through proper network
configuration) by provisioning the Network Management (X.25) port to Terminal Server mode
and provisioning the proper baud rate and Telnet port. Once properly configured and connected
to the RS-232 port of the desired device, a connection can be established by a Telnet session
connected to the IP address of the SCM with the port number of the Terminal Server.
NOTE
The default Network Terminal Server Telnet Port is 2003. The
default Admin Terminal Server Network Port is 2004. These values
are provisionable.
The Terminal Server is asynchronous and supports a wide range of baud rates between 1200
baud and 115200 baud. The default baud rate is 9600. The format is fixed to 8-bit
asynchronous data with no parity and one stop bit (8, N, 1).
In addition to the X.25 port, the Admin port can also be provisioned as a Terminal Server.
Both Terminal Server ports also have a Security option that is disabled by default. When this
option is enabled, users must authenticate themselves with a username and password that is
already present on the system when they connect to the X.25 or Admin port terminal servers.

Ethernet Port

The SCM provides Telnet and SNMP interfaces through a standard Ethernet 10Base-T RJ-45
connector ( ) located on the backplane of the OPTI-6100 chassis.

The SCM2 provides a front-panel Ethernet 10/100Base-T RJ-45 connection (
SCM2 is installed, the rear-panel ENET connection also operates as 10/100Base-T.
