OPTI-6100 Installation and Turn-Up Practice

Connect RS-485 Bus

The SCM supports communication with other OPTI-6100 systems over a shared, twisted-pair,
half-duplex RS-485 link. The SCM from each system is connected in parallel on this bus. One
SCM acts as the host controller and all others function as clients. Physical access is attained
through wire-wrap posts on the right rear of the OPTI-6100 rear panel.
Up to 16 chassis can be linked together for management from a single chassis designated as
Host. (Configure the other chassis as Clients.) This feature conserves valuable management
ports within the CO, and provides local or remote management for up to 16 chassis from the
craft interface of the host SCM, or from the remote management port connections described in
this section. The alarm status of each chassis in the daisy chain can be seen from the auxiliary
chassis access menu of the host SCM. Connections should be made from the host to the clients
in a daisy chain using the appropriate pins.
