HFANM Installation

The OPTI-6100 High-Capacity Fan Assembly (HFANM,
higher-power fan module, with increased cooling capacity for use in OC-48 applications. The
HFANM also includes 16 environmental alarm inputs that can be provisioned through the SCM.
The HFANM mounts above the MX chassis, according to the following, additional guidelines:
NOTICE
A minimum 1U space or a Heat Baffle must be installed below the
MX chassis to allow for air inlet.
For installations requiring filtered air, a Heat Baffle plus Air Filter
(P/N 4184538L1) must be installed below the MX chassis.
A Fiber Routing Tray must be used with the HFANM, installed
between the MX chassis and the HFANM.
Some applications may require a second Heat Baffle above the
HFANM. If not, an empty 1U rack space must be provided.
To install an HFANM Assembly, complete the following steps:
1. Inspect the HFANM. If damaged, file a claim with the carrier and contact ADTRAN
Customer Support. For more information, refer to
2. If required, install a Fiber Routing Tray above the MX chassis. Otherwise leave an empty 1U
space between the chassis and HFANM.
3. Mount the HFANM in the rack above the open space or Fiber Routing Tray with the screws
provided. The mounting brackets can be reversed to fit either a 19-inch or 23-inch frame.
4. Mount a Heat Baffle below the MX chassis.
5. Disconnect power, and remove the fuses from A and B power supplies (if present).
6. Run power connections to the HFANM for A and B power feeds, and terminate them on the
power lugs located on the terminal block on the rear of the chassis.
NOTICE
If the OPTI-6100 is wired for dual-feed power, then the HFANM
should also be dual-feed powered. These connections can be
made with up to 14 gauge wire.
If only A power is supplied, with no B power feed, the single power
feed must be connected to both the A and B terminals, to prevent
an unnecessary B power feed alarm.
7. Run connecting wires from the
and
wire wrap pins on the rear of the OPTI-6100 chassis.

8. Connect the environmental alarm inputs to wire-wrap pairs 1–16 (one pair per input).
9. Insert fuses into the fuse panel. Use a 1.0 A fuse for –48 VDC or a 2.0 A fuse for ±24 VDC.
10. Restore power to the HFANM.
