Frame Ground

Each SMX chassis requires a frame ground connection using 14–16 AWG wire (14 recom-
mended) or in accordance with standard company requirements. Run separate ground wires
from the rack or grounding bar for each chassis. Wire with green insulation is recommended,
to distinguish the frame ground from other power connections. Up to 6 AWG wire can be
accommodated with the appropriate lug. Lugs must be tightened to a torque of 2 foot-pounds
(24 inch-pounds).
Each fan assembly also requires a connection to frame ground. 16 AWG or 18 AWG ground wire
following the same color scheme as the chassis should be used. The fan assemblies should be
connected to frame ground using the same method as the chassis.
