Management Port Connections

The OPTI-6100 system integrates onto the backplane several different management ports to
allow for remote management of the system. The management interfaces terminate on the SCM.
With the SCM installed in the system, Network Management and Administration (NMA) over
TL1 on an X.25 network, Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) over Ethernet, TL1 over
Ethernet, or Telnet can be used to manage the system from a remote location.
Up to 16 chassis can be linked together on the RS-485 bus for management using menus and
TL1 from a single management interface. For more information, refer to
on page 46.

X.25/Admin Port

The OPTI-6100 can be accessed and managed by the local craft port on the front of the SCM,
or by modem. Modem access has the same capabilities as the local craft port; however the
OPTI-6100 SCM does not support hardware flow control. In order to connect to the OPTI-6100
by modem, the modem must have the capability to ignore hardware flow control. Refer to
"Logging in to the OPTI-6100"
Modem access is through a female, rear-panel RS-232/DB-25 connector. The Admin port also
accesses the X.25 PAD, which can send and receive TL1 commands for NMA management.
NOTICE
In the MX and SMX chassis, the X.25 and Admin ports use the same
connector labeled
functions concurrently, a Y-cable is required.
The LMX provides separate DB-25 X.25 and Admin port connectors.
NOTE
If the OPTI-6100 is designated as the Host in an RS-485 daisy chain
configuration, modem access is available to all chassis in the daisy
chain through a single modem connection.
