OPTI-6100 Installation and Turn-Up Practice

PROCEDURE OVERVIEW

Complete the following steps in order and note the results in
1. Verify power connection.
Use the procedure outlined in the appropriate chassis Job Aid (61184500L1-22 for MX,
61184514L1-22 for SMX, or 61184555L1-22 for LMX) to verify the wiring of each chassis
to the fuse panel. If a wiring problem is found, correct the problem before proceeding.
2. Verify the DS1 wiring (if present).
Use the procedure
the wiring of each chassis to the DSX-1 panel. If a wiring problem is found, correct the
problem before proceeding.
3. Verify the DS3 wiring (if present).
Use the procedure
the wiring of each chassis to the DSX-3 panel. If a wiring problem is found, correct the
problem before proceeding.
4. Verify the timing input connections (if present).
If timing connections have been made to the OPTI-6100 chassis, perform the steps
indicated below.
a. Check for the timing source port alarm.
Visually check the output module on the timing source to ensure that no alarm condi-
tion is associated with the output port connected to the OPTI-6100 chassis.
b. Check Waveform with Oscilloscope.
This test step is optional but is recommended in cases where the clock wire run is long
or is routed past possible sources of interference. Verify that the input clock waveform
meets requirements.
5. Verify Fan Operation.
If fan assembly has been installed, perform the steps indicated below.
a. Visually Verify Fan Operation.
Visually verify that all of the fans are operating and that no obstructions are present to
impede free airflow through the chassis.
b. Verify the Fan Assembly Alarm Input to the SCM.
Use the procedure
page A-7 to verify that the Fan Assembly generates the proper alarm when it fails.
6. Verify Alarm Relay Output Connections.
If the chassis alarm relays have been wired to external alarming equipment, use the
procedure
"Verifying the Alarm Relay Output Connections to the SCM"
that the alarm relay outputs are properly wired and functioning.
7. Verify IP LAN Connection.
If the chassis is connected through the 10Base-T port to a network, use the procedure
"Verifying SCM Communications Over an IP LAN"
connection is properly configured and working.
