Space Considerations

The following sections describe space considerations that must be accounted for before
installing the OPTI-6100.

Fitting the Chassis into NEBS Lineups

The OPTI-6100 chassis are designed to flush-mount or mid-mount in any standard 23-inch or
19-inch network bay or unequal flange relay rack. All chassis meet the 12-inch NEBS depth
profile, and can be mounted in any 12-inch, 18-inch, or 24-inch network lineup. Full cable
routing support is provided for power and transmission cables in both flush-mount and mid-
mount configurations.
Two SMX chassis can be mounted side-by-side in any standard 23-inch/19-inch network bay.
Vertical space requirements depend on the chassis and additional equipment in an application.
Under certain conditions, a heat baffle (1U) may be required above any OPTI-6100 chassis.

Vertical Space Requirements: MX Chassis

The MX chassis occupies 3.5 inches (2U) of vertical space in the rack. A fan module (FANM,
EFANM, or HFANM), when equipped (as specified by the site engineer), occupies an additional
1.75 inches (1U) of vertical rack space. In a typical application, multiple chassis can be stacked
with either fan modules or blank spaces separating them.

Vertical Space Requirements: SMX Chassis

The SMX chassis occupies 3.5 inches (2U) of vertical space in the rack. A fan module (SFANM),
when equipped (as specified by the site engineer), occupies an additional 1.75 inches (1U) of
vertical rack space. In a typical application, multiple chassis can be stacked with either fan
modules or blank spaces separating them.

Vertical Space Requirements: LMX Chassis

The LMX Chassis occupies 12.25 inches (7U) of vertical space in the rack, integrating a fan
unit, fiber management, and ventilation channel. In a typical application, multiple chassis can
be stacked with blank spaces separating them.
