Auto Frame Format Detection

For OPTI-6100 tributary modules equipped with framers (DS1VME, DS1VMT, DS3M3E, and
DS3M3T), the default DS1 or DS3 Framing option is Auto, which enables Auto Frame Format
Detection. Since Framing is set per facility, so is Auto Frame Format Detection.
Detection occurs during the AINS Time period (refer to
disabled or overriden, Auto Frame Format Detection is also disabled. Likewise, as AINS only
operates during initial turn-up of facility, Auto Frame Format Detection only operates during
facility turn-up.
NOTE
To re-enable Auto Frame Format Detection after it has been
terminated for any reason, AINS must be re-enabled. The facility
must be deleted (OOS-MA UAS) and re-created (IS).
During the AINS Time, if Framing is set to Auto, the module anticipates the incoming signal to
be framed in either C-Bit or M13 format. If the incoming (customer side) signal is unframed, the
module does not apply a framing format. If the incoming signal is framed as C-bit or M13, the
module continues to treat the incoming signal as the detected format. If a different frame format
is detected before the AINS Timer elapses, the module changes the expected frame format to
match.
NOTE
Until a frame format is detected, the Framing menu alternates
between Auto (C-bit) or Auto (M13). Once a format has been
detected, the menu option reflects the detected format only.
After AINS Time elapses, the Framing mode of the module is locked in the most recent detected
format. If the Framing format changes on the incoming signal, a Loss of Frame error is
generated. If Framing is determined to be Unframed, and a framed signal of any format is
received, the signal is passed without error.
NOTE
If Loss of Signal occurs on an IS facility, Loss of Frame is not
reported, even though no frame is detected.
