SAToP Payload Size

Use the SAToP Payload Size menu to specify the payload size of the pseudowire, in bytes, when
Mode is configured for SAToP. This menu allows each pseudowire to be provisioned individ-
ually, or in batches. Select a pseudowire by entering the appropriate number, or select Set
Multiple to specify a range.
Payload size determines the packetization delay of the pseudowire.
For example, a 25-byte T1 pseudowire results in a 130 μs packetization delay, whereas a
958-byte T1 pseudowire results in a 4.96 ms packetization delay. The advantage of increasing
the payload size is lower total throughput as a result of lower packet overhead. The network
engineer must balance delay versus throughput and set the payload size accordingly.
The valid range and default for SAToP Payload Size differs by mode. Table C-X lists minimum,
maximum, and default sizes per mode.

CESoP Payload Size

Use the CESoP Payload Size menu to specify the payload size of the pseudowire when Mode is
configured for CESoP. The payload size in bytes is calculated as DS0s × Frames.
The CESoP Payload Size menu allows each pseudowire to be provisioned individually, or in
batches. Select a pseudowire by entering the appropriate number, or select Set Multiple to
specify a range.
A new menu appears, with options to provision the number of DS0s and the number of frames.
DS0s: This configures the number of DS0 timeslots per 125 μs frame to carry in the
pseudowire.
Frames: This configures the number of 125 μs frames to carry in the pseudowire. The
maximum provisionable frame count is dependent on the DS0 count. If one DS0 is
provisioned, then the maximum frame count is 64 (8 ms of payload). If two to four DS0s
are provisioned, then the maximum frame count is 32 (4 ms of payload). If five or more
DS0s are provisioned, then the maximum frame count is 8 (1 ms of payload).
