Usage guidelines
This command enables IPv6 IS-IS FRR and PIC to use BFD to detect primary link failures. BFD can
detect and report a primary link failure to IPv6 IS-IS for a primary-backup path switchover. This can
shorten the duration of service interruption.
For an interface to run the BFD session in echo packet mode correctly, make sure the interface has
an IPv6 global unicast address. For more information about IPv6 global unicast addresses, see IPv6
basics configuration in Layer 3—IP Services Configuration Guide.
You can perform one of the following tasks to enable BFD-powered primary link failure detection for
IPv6 IS-IS FRR and PIC:
