Venue•2000 ships with an ISDN BRI (Basic Rate Interface) network
interface built into it. In addition to ISDN, you can have one other
network interface. This chapter explains how to conÞgure the
network interfaces you have.
You should be familiar with the following terms that are discussed
in this chapter:
ISDN (Integrated services digital network) Ñ A set of transmission
standards designed to ensure compatibility between digital
telecommunications services, worldwide.
BRI (basic rate interface) Ñ An ISDN interface that supports two
64-kbps bearer (B) channels and one 16-kbps signaling (D)
channel.
PRI (primary rate interface) Ñ An ISDN interface that supports
twenty-three 64-kbps bearer (B) channels and one 64-kbps
signaling (D) channel.
V.35 Ñ An ITU-T standard that governs data transmission. In
practice, V.35 is used for synchronous transmission up to 2.048
megabits per second.
RS-449 Ñ A 37-pin data communications connector designed
for synchronous transmission up to 2.048 megabits per second.
Switched-56 Ñ A switched network service that operates with
56 kbps channels. A typical call on this network uses two
channels, and thus transmits data at a rate of 112 kbps.
T1 Ñ An AT&T term for a digital carrier facility used to
transmit a DS1 formatted digital signal at 1.544 megabits per
second or 1.536 megabits per second using Clear Channel
