Installation and Maintenance Manual
Message Waiting
Indication
Toshiba VP Systems
Release 6.1
February, 1993
MWI allows the VP 300 to activate and deactivate telephone message
waiting indicators to indicate when messages are waiting on the VP 300.
The VP 300 performs MWI using the SX-2000 DTMF feature access
codes for Message Waiting-Activate and Message Waiting-Deactivate in
conjunction with System Parameters 79, 80, 81, and 82.
There are four ways to configure the VP 300 for Message Waiting
Indication on the SX-2000. Which configuration is appropriate depends
on the application and the SX-2000 software level. Note that some of
these configurations do not require Adaptive Integration.
MWI on a Single Dedicated Port
At any SX-2000 software level, the VP 300 can perform MWI using a
single dedicated VP 300 port. This port must be isolated so that it does not
receive calls. The port need not be a MIC port. This configuration does
not require Adaptive Integration.
MWI on Several Dedicated MIC Ports
At any SX-2000 software level, the VP 300 can perform MWI using
multiple dedicated MIC ports. These MIC ports must be isolated so that
they do not receive calls. Each MIC MWI port can be configured to
perform MWI for a specified group of VP 300 COS. This configuration
requires Adaptive Integration.
MWI on any MIC port
If the SX-2000 has software level H10.9 or later, all MIC ports can be
assigned the PBX class of service option COV Voice Mail Port so that
any VP 300 MIC outcall port can perform MWI. This configuration
requires Adaptive Integration.
MWI on any port
If the SX-2000 has software level H10.15B or later, any VP 300 port can
be assigned the PBX class of service option COV/ONS Voice Mail Port
so that all VP 300 outcall ports can perform MWI. This configuration
does not require Adaptive Integration.
Refer to the Mitel SX-2000 Configuration and VP 300 Configuration
sections for details on implementing MWI.
In large configurations, typically over 300 mailbox holders, there
may be delays in message waiting activation and deactivation under
certain circumstances, for example, with broadcast messages. Large
configurations can create a high volume of message waiting
commands within a short period of time. Mailbox holders may
notice a delay in their lamps being turned ON or OFF.
Contact your nearest technical support center if you believe this
situation may occur. It is advised that this possibility be discussed
during customer training.
