Section 7: Replacement Procedures

7.16 REPLACING GAP SENSOR

The Gap sensor assemblies may need replacement if cleaning does not improve their functionality.
Before proceeding, switch off the printer and remove the main cover, left housing cover and the top left

housing cover to gain access to the internal (electrical and mechanism) hardware. Refer to Section 7.1
Removal of Housing cover for details.
Unscrew five screws to detach the Main (CONT) PCB bracket from the printer frame. Refer to Section
2.
7.6 Replacing Torque Limiter (Ribbon Unwinder) for details.
From the mechanism side, remove 6 screws (1) securing the Print head assembly (2) on the other side

of the printer frame. Disconnect the two wiring harnesses (Head cable and Power head cable) from the
Print head assembly and place them aside for later reassemble.
Detach the Cutter unit .

Unscrew the shaft that holds the cutter unit in place, removed the shaft and set aside. Carefully lift and
pull out the cutter unit . Refer to step 1 of Section 6.10.1 To adjust Gap/ Center hole sensor .
Detach the Operator Panel assembly based on step 2 and step 3 of Section 7.15 Replacing Operator

Panel PCB .
Remove the Power route assembly from the printer frame based on step 3 to step 7 of Section 7.10

Replacing Stepper Motor .
Remove the Media route frame assembly (4) from the base cover (5).

Remove six screws (3) to detach the base cover (5)
from the printer frame and the Media route frame
assembly (4).
Two screws are on the front position where the Cutter
unit was installed, two screws are on the back position
where the Media guide is and two screws attached to
the printer frame legs on the mechanism side of the
printer.
