DPD Fault Finding
The engine ECU monitors the status of the DPD sensors
and particle filter regeneration events. If the regeneration
events or sensor values are not as expected the applicable
fault codes are displayed and logged. In response to some
faults the engine ECU will reduce the engine RPM and
torque.
An abbreviated form of fault finding is given here. For
comprehensive information on fault codes and fault finding
refer to the applicable engine documentation. Refer to
Section K.
General
In the event of frequent DPD regeneration, or extended
regeneration duration, proceed as follows:
1 Check the machine operation cycles. Check the time
periods the engine RPM is at idle speed. Check when
in the work cycle regeneration typically takes place,
when the engine is doing work, when the engine is at
idle RPM, or when the engine is not fully warmed up
for example.
2 Check the engine oil level.
3 Check the engine oil condition.
4 Check the fuel quality.
5 Check the condition of the engine cooling system.
6 Inspect the engine induction system for leaks or
restrictions. Check the condition of the engine air
filters.
7 Inspect the TMAF (Temperature and Mass Air Flow)
sensor for defects or contamination.
8 Inspect the engine exhaust system for leaks or
restrictions.
9 Inspect the external condition of the DPD pressure
differential sensor. Inspect the electrical connectors
and wires for defects. Inspect the pipe connections for
leaks or internal restriction.
10 Inspect the external condition of the DPD exhaust gas
temperature sensors.

11 Check the operation of the regeneration switch in the
cab. Use the Servicemaster T4i DPD diagnostics
