DPD Filter Regeneration
The DPD contains a filter which traps exhaust particle
matter. After a period of time the filter starts to become
saturated. To prevent over saturation the engine ECU
automatically initiates a regeneration cycle. This increases
the temperature inside the DPD by changing the engine
fuel injection settings. The increase in temperature burns
the particle matter and turns it to ash.
The filter saturation level is shown by a bar graph on the
display for 5s at ignition ON.
Fig 27.
Automatic Regeneration
Regeneration automatically occurs approximately every 8
machine hours or when the particle matter accumulation
level exceeds a pre-set saturation threshold.
The green regeneration symbol is shown on the display for
5s, after this time the green regeneration symbol will move
to the bottom of the display and the auto regeneration
cycle will begin.

When regeneration is completed successfully the green
regeneration symbol will be replaced by the fan speed
symbol.
If the engine is switched off before the regeneration cycle
is complete, the cycle will resume when the engine is
restarted.
Manual Regeneration
Automatic regeneration may not be successful in cleaning
the DPF of particle matter. This may be caused by the
following:
– Repeated cancellation of the automatic regeneration
cycle by the operator (pressing the regeneration
switch or stopping the engine during the automatic
regeneration cycle).
– Engine operating conditions fail to raise the DPF
temperature sufficiently to enable effective burning of
the particle matter.

If the automatic regeneration is not effective the engine
ECU requests manual regeneration and the amber
regeneration symbol shows on the display for 10s. After
this time a flashing amber regeneration symbol is shown at
the bottom of the display.
To perform a manual regeneration the operator must move
the machine to a safe location so as not to cause an
obstruction, away from any flammable materials. Position
the excavator end on the ground and keep the engine

running.
The manual regeneration cycle is initiated by pressing the
regeneration switch.
