Use a type of extra-low-sulphur diesel fuel designated for general diesel vehicles which satisfies these
requirements.
No fine dust is contained
Appropriate degree of viscosity is provided
High in cetane value
Good low-temperature fluidity
Low sulphur content
Low carbon residue
Be sure to use extra-low-sulphur diesel fuel. Adding of or mixing with inferior fuel, water remover, other fuel
additives, gasoline, heating oil, heavy oil or alcoholic fuel for use may cause a sliding failure of the fuel lubricating
portions in the fuel filter and injector, and have harmful effects on each part of the engine which may result
in an engine failure.
Low Sulphur Fuels
Low sulphur fuels must have the appropriate fuel lubricity additives added to prevent premature wear of the
pump and injectors. These improvers must not create residual deposits that block the fuel system, e.g. injectors,
filters etc.
As a guide, areas where some low sulphur content fuels may require the addition of a lubrication additive are
Canada, North America, Russia, Australasia and Japan.
The additives listed below are advertised as being suitable for bringing the lubricity levels of low sulphur fuels
up to those of diesel fuels. They must be used as specified by your fuel supplier who should understand the
concentration level necessary.
1. Elf 2S 1750, specifically for Indian SKO (Superior Kerosene) but may be applicable to other fuels.
2. Lubrizol 539N.
3. Paradyne 7505 (from Infineum).
High Sulphur Fuels
Using fuel other than extra-low-sulfur diesel fuel (with sulfur content of 15 ppm or lower) may have a harmful
effect on the engine and the exhaust gas purification device (DPD), possibly resulting in a breakdown. If a
wrong type of fuel is filled in, drain it completely. It is dangerous to start the engine with the wrong type of fuel
because doing so may cause a fire or engine damage.
As a guide, areas where high sulphur content in fuel can be a problem are Middle East, North Africa, South
East Asia, India and Japan.
As a guide, areas where the sulphur content can be marginal in fuel and therefore caution is required are
Canada, North America, South America, South Africa, East Asia and Australasia.
Effects of Fuel Contaminates
Dirt
A severely damaging contaminant. Finely machined and mated surfaces in delivery valves and distributor rotor
are susceptible to the abrasive nature of dirty particles - increased wear will almost inevitably lead to greater
leakage, uneven running and poor fuel delivery.
Any fuel purchased must be from reputable oil producers/ outlets and stored in accordance with the
manufacturers recommendations.
Fuel filters must be serviced regularly to prevent clogging of the filter which will cause poor performance of the
machine due to fuel starvation.
