Additional multiple fuel pre filters are available as production options. These must be fitted to machines which
will be used in areas with known fuel contamination issues.
As a guide, areas where dirt in fuel can be a problem are Scandinavia, Southern Europe, Russia, Middle East,
China, South America, East Asia and India.
Water
Water can enter fuel through poor storage or careless handling. Small amounts of water in the injection pump
can cause rapid wear, corrosion and in severe cases, even seizure.
The filter/water traps on the pre fuel filter and main fuel filter must be drained regularly.
> Maintenance Schedules (Page 177).
To prevent condensation in the machines fuel tank, we recommend that the tank be filled at the end of each
working day.
Fuel Bulk Storage
It is important that the storage of the fuel is maintained to a high standard to prevent early fuel system failures.
Storage tanks should have the ability to clean, remove dirt and water, to maintain the quality of the fuel.
Old fuel should also be avoided as the diesel fuel can break down and cause premature failure.
Fuel Analysis
Fuel analysis is available from JCB Wearcheck.
This analysis is available on two levels.
1. A simplified check for contamination.
2. A detailed analysis showing cetane level, flashpoint temperature and sulphur content.
No warranty liability whatsoever will be accepted for failure of fuel injection equipment where the failure is
attributed to the quality and grade of the fuel used.

Coolant

CAUTION Antifreeze can be harmful. Obey the manufacturer's instructions when handling full strength or
diluted antifreeze.
Check the strength of the coolant mixture at least once a year, preferably at the start of the cold period.
Replace the coolant mixture according to the intervals shown in the machine's Service Schedule.
You must dilute full strength antifreeze with clean water before use. Use clean water of no more than a moderate
hardness (pH value 8.5). If this cannot be obtained, use de-ionized water. For further information advice on
water hardness, contact your local water authority.
The correct concentration of antifreeze protects the engine against frost damage in winter and provides year
round protection against corrosion.
The protection provided by JCB High Performance Antifreeze and Inhibitor is shown below.
Concentration
50% (Standard)
60% (Extreme Conditions Only)
Do not exceed a 60% concentration, as the freezing protection provided reduces beyond this point.
