Status Reporting

Status reporting is used to monitor the 8990B to determine when events have
occurred. Status reporting is accomplished by configuring and reading status
registers.
The 8990B has the following main registers:
– Status Byte Register
– Standard Event Register
– Operation Status Register
– Questionable Status Register
– Device Status Register
There are other registers that exist "behind" the main registers, and are described
later in this chapter.
Status Byte and Standard Event registers are read using the IEEE-488 common
commands.
Operation, Questionable, and Device Status registers are read using the SCPI
STATus command subsystem.
General status register model
The generalized status register model shown below is the building block of the
SCPI status system. This model consists of a condition register, a transition filter,
an event register, and an enable register. A set of these registers is called a status
group.
