Igniting the Flame

NOTE
: In an emergency, switch off the spectrometer using the operational on/off switch behind the lamp
door or the emergency flame off switch on the front of the instrument. The flame is automatically
extinguished and the gases shut down in a safe sequence. See Chapter 8 for the procedure to
follow after an emergency shutdown.
To ignite the flame
1. Start up the spectrometer system. The power switch is on the E-Box located behind the lamp
door.
2. Adjust the gas supply regulator pressure to the recommended values.
3. Perform the safety checks.
4. Touch the Flame tab to display the Flame page.
5. Touch the Oxidant Tab to display the Flame Type dialog.
6. Touch the button for the required flame type, Air-Acetylene or Nitrous Oxide-Acetylene, and
then touch OK.
Warning: Flammable Gases, Fire and Explosion Hazard

efore you ignite the flame, setup your spectrometer and burner correctly and observe
all the safety precautions described in your spectrometer guide.
Warning: UV Radiation Risk of Eye Damage
The flame, especially the nitrous oxide-acetylene flame, may emit UV radiation
which can damage your eyes.
Keep the door closed when the flame is burning, unless you need to adjust the
burner as described in the user documentation

lways wear the UV-absorbing safety glasses when looking at the flame.
Warning: Flashback
While the flame is on, DO NOT push the lever that is located on the burner
mount assembly.
