Operation of the Instrument
Safety Checks
Before igniting the flame, always make sure that:
•
The exhaust venting system for the laboratory is switched on.
•
Burner chamber is correctly installed.
•
The burner head is correctly installed.
•
The burner end cap is secured.
•
The nebulizer is installed.
•
The correct gaskets are fitted in the burner system
•
The burner drain is connected to the system secured by clamp.
•
The drain trap is filled and is operating correctly.
•
The door of the atomizer compartment is in the closed position.
•
Remove all nearby flammable chemicals.
•
Fire extinguisher should be kept nearby.
•
Check for chemical residue build-up on the burner head slot.
•
When igniting nitrous oxide flame, warm up the burner head with air-acetylene flame for 15
minutes.
•
All safety interlocks are correctly closed.
If the interlocks are not closed, one or more of the following may be the cause:
•
The burner head, the nebulizer, or the drain system is not correctly installed.
•
The fuel or oxidant pressure is too low.
•
The liquid level in the drain trap is either too low or too high.
