7. Ignite the flame:
Touch the On side of the Flame On/Off switch.
The indicator in the switch lights up.
8. The correct procedure to extinguish the flame is described in this chapter.
9. If the system is set up correctly the flame is ignited using default values for the gas flows. If
you selected nitrous oxide as the flame type, the flame is ignited with an air-acetylene
mixture, with automatic changeover to nitrous oxide after several seconds.
NOTE
: It is recommended to warm up the burner head with air-acetylene flame for 15 minutes before
switching to nitrous oxide flame
10. The flame should appear uniform and stable throughout its length. If it is not, even after
warming up, you may need to clean the burner head. See the Maintenance chapter in this
User's Guide Manual.

If you are preadjusting the nebulizer.
If you have installed a different nebulizer, cleaned the nebulizer, or if the settings on the
nebulizer have been altered since it was last used.
If you are using the flame to heat the quartz tube atomizer of an optional MHS-15 Mercury
Hydride System.

When using nitrous-oxide, the flame should have a red plume. Increase the
oxidant flow until the red plume is 1½ inches to 1¾ inches high.
